Who can join?
The American Legion is open to anyone who served at least one day on federal active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces since December 7, 1941, and received an honorable discharge — or is currently serving honorably.
Membership operates on a calendar-year basis. National dues are around $40 per year; Post 137 sets its own additional local dues, payable January 1 each year.

Use of the Post Home, lounge, and event spaces at 419 New York Ave.
Member events all year
Friday night pool (7 PM), karaoke evenings, and the annual Christmas dinner — open to members and guests.
Honor Guard participation
Volunteer with the Honor Guard for Memorial Day and other veterans' ceremonies throughout Henry County.
Veteran benefits help
Access American Legion service officers nationwide for help navigating VA claims and benefits.
Community partnership
Side-by-side work with VFW Post #1282 and the New Castle–Henry County Chamber of Commerce supporting local veterans.
Youth mentorship
Support local youth programs like Boys State, Oratorical Contest, and other Legion initiatives.
Already a Post 137 member — time to renew?
Annual dues are payable by January 1. You can renew through MyLegion.org or by contacting our membership officer below.
Family of the Legion
Post 137 also has active American Legion Auxiliary and Sons of The American Legion squadrons — so veterans' spouses, daughters, mothers, sisters, sons, grandsons, and great-grandsons can find a place to serve too. Ask Kevin about joining the right family organization for you.
